Christmas Toy Drive
October 15, 2009
Gabrielle Espejo, a senior at Connelly, was so moved by her church's May mission to Nicaragua that she is sharing the stories with her friends here on campus. She's including classmates in her extended call to action with the launch of her Christmas Toy Drive. "The children need clothing and some of the simple things, like school supplies," Gabrielle said. "They don't have much, and, when it runs out, they don't have a way to get more. I really want to help." Gabrielle placed boxes in the library to gather clothing, shoes, backpacks, school supplies and toys for the children of Nicaragua. Monetary donations also are accepted. The deadline to donate items is Nov. 25. Gabrielle said she plans to wrap each gift before mailing them to Nicaragua.

Summer of service in Brazil
October 1, 2009
Connelly teacher Claire Daniel and Academic Advisor Evangelina Savala '00 were among 30 young adults from Orange County who merged spirituality and service on a mission in Brazil. The mission, through the Sisters of the Company of Mary, called upon volunteers from across the globe to teach children dance, art and prayer. Ms. Daniel and Ms. Savala said staying with host families in Brazil was a humbling and life-changing experience. "I was overwhelmed by my host families," said Daniel. "Their love was unconditional, and it was truly through God."
