Book Club

The primary goal of Book Club is to encourage all students to take a break from their busy and stressful schedules to relax with a good book. We want to get great books into the hands of students and the Connelly family. We do this by hosting a variety of events and activities, from book discussions to book drives.

Book Club promotes recreational reading among students and serves as an advisory group to the school librarian by recommending books for purchase and volunteering to help the librarian as needed. Every month members read a book from a different literary genre, for example, November is mystery fiction month, February is all about romance novels, etc. We write book reviews and meet weekly to share and promote our favorite books.

Book Club also organizes literary and book-related activities on campus such as the "haunted library," banned books display, and various activities for National School Libraries Month. Additionally, we encourage all Connelly students to attend literary events, such as the annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. Book Club members organize fundraisers to purchase books for the Connelly School Library collection. For the first time this year we also are organizing a schoolwide book drive to collect children's books, which will be donated to a local literacy advocacy organization.

Books can be dangerous.  The best ones should be labeled "This could change your life."  ~Helen Exley
