Spanish Honor Society
The Spanish Honor Society is a Connelly organization that exists to recognize scholarship in the study of Spanish, to promote fluency in Spanish and to share Hispanic culture in our community.  It is part of La Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica. The club requires members to have accomplished at least three semesters of Spanish with no grades lower than B.  On campus activities include the celebration of Hispanic holidays such as Our Lady of Guadalupe and Cinco de Mayo.  The group attends outings to museums with Hispanic collections and to restaurants serving food from Spanish speaking countries.  We also plan movie afternoons showing films in Spanish and serving ethnic treats.  ¡Bienvenidas a Connelly!

Spanish Honor Society officers for the 2010-2011 school year (l to r): Alyssa Lardenoit, vice president; Catherine Wippler, president; and Nicole Yost, secretary. (Not shown, Selina Bernal, treasurer.)

The Spanish Honor Society sponsors two 10-year-old children in Mexico and Colombia through the Catholic organization Hope for a Family. Connelly students hold fundraisers to pay $60 each month for their sponsorships which help provide nutritious food for the young students and their families and job skill training for their parents. Connelly's students also write frequent and encouraging letters to Juan and Yei in Spanish.
