A Voice for the Environment
May 2, 2008

Senior Kailea Spitaleri is always greeted with applause and warm smiles when she steps in front of the students at the Monday Morning Assemblies.  Her interesting stories and ideas, and often humorous self-described "rantings" on the environment have become almost legendary.  As Associated Student Body Commissioner of Ecology, she not only motivates the students through her presentations, but directs the Ecology Club in collecting recyclables from all offices and classrooms.  She is a leader in Connelly's Garden Guardians, serving one Saturday a month planting and caring for numerous gardens at the school, and is responsible for initiating a very beneficial composting program.  Connelly's gardens are carefully planned and focus on California native plants that require little water.

Kailea is an excellent student with a weighted GPA of 4.27.  In her four years at Connelly, she has taken many Honors and Advanced Placement Classes, is always on the Honor Roll with Distinction, and is a California Scholarship Federation Gold Seal Bearer.  She is a member of Connelly's Advanced Women's Ensemble and traveled to Italy and New York to sing with the Ensemble in great cathedrals and participate in choir festivals.  She was also voted "Most Inspirational" on Connelly's Junior Varsity Volleyball team her junior year, and a "right-side hitter" on Connelly's CIF Southern Section Division V-A Championship Varsity Volleyball Team her senior year.  Outside of school, Kailea is active in Girl Scouts, achieving the Silver Award.

On her college application information sheet, she describes herself as, "...very passionate about what I do and really care about my commitments.  Whether it is my school work, ASB, choir, or my ecology or fair trade projects, I really put forth an effort to reach my goal."
